How to End a Relationship:
Do's and Don'ts
No one teaches you how to end a relationship, but it’s a skill that you have to learn. Breaking up is a tough situation, and if you’ve been with your partner for awhile it’s even harder.
With some careful maneuvering, you can make sure that your break up doesn’t turn into a messy situation.
Follow these Do’s and Don’ts for ending a relationship so that you can get over your ex and get on with your life.
Ending a Relationship DON’Ts
DON’T Pull a fadeaway a.k.a. The Disappearing Act
DON’T Break up in a letter, email, or text message (and definitely not on Facebook!)
DON’T Try to make your ex feel better by “being there” for them after the breakup
DON’T Allow him/her to make you “reconsider” after you’ve made a decision
DON’T Keep in touch with their friends and try to find out what’s going on with them
DON’T Call the person/meet up (to “talk”) for the first 30 days… really 60 days if you want it to stick
DON’T Go through it alone unless you’re an introvert and look inward for answers and peace
DON’T Keep the same routine - It’s time to get a hobby to fill the void in your life
How to end a relationship DO’s
DO Break up in person whenever possible
DO Stop having sex with the person
DO Focus on YOUR feelings and your needs
DO Grieve the loss of your relationship
DO Give your partner an opportunity to explain their feelings – but put a time limit on it
DO Learn about dating and seduction
DO Create a must-have list for your next relationship
DO Put away remnants of your relationship
