Learning to
Love Yourself First
People always say “You really need to love yourself” or “It's all about learning to love yourself first”.
Why doesn't anyone ever tell you HOW?!
I mean really… if it were sooooo easy, then everyone would be doing it, right? Wouldn’t the world be full of love, overflowing with love, filled with nothing but loving people doing loving things?
But the truth is: It’s NOT easy to love yourself. In fact, it’s downright difficult!
Learning to love yourself takes self-awareness.
Most people don’t want to look at themselves deeply…
afraid of what they might find.
Learning to love yourself first takes courage.
Most people act cowardly.
Learning to love yourself first takes patience.
Most people are impatient.
They want everything NOW! AN HOUR AGO! YESTERDAY! :-)
So this idea – loving yourself first – is pretty foreign to most of us…
Especially when we find out how much hard work is involved.
And besides that, our way of describing it is terribly off. 'Learning to love yourself' is NOT really something that you “learn” how to do. It’s something that you just you COMMIT to doing. Every day. All of the time.
Ask yourself how you would/do treat a partner in a committed relationship.
Do you cherish him or her? Are you intensely interested in this person? Do you give your partner proper respect? Do you enjoy every little part of your lover? Do you sacrifice less important things for his or her benefit?
Why then is it so hard for us to do this to ourselves?
It isn’t.
We just need to make the choice to do it.
Loving yourself means being in a committed relationship with YOU.
That's what this website is all about. Making choices that demonstrate healthy self-love and choosing to be your best self.
