Empowering Girls to Empower Themselves

Did you know?
- Over 50% of teenage girls are using restrictive measures to lose weight at any given time.
- 50% of teenage girls use unhealthy weight control behaviors such as skipping meals, fasting, smoking cigarettes, vomiting, and taking laxatives to control their weight.
- The National Institute of Mental Health reports that 2.7 percent of teenagers 13-18 suffer from an eating disorder.
- 74% of girls say they are under pressure to please everyone.
- 92 percent of teen girls would like to change something about the way they look, with body weight ranking the highest.
- 72% of girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful.
- 80% of women agree that every woman has something about her that is beautiful but do not see their own beauty.
These statistics show the sobering reality girls are up against. However, there is hope! We can help combat mixed media and social messages. According to the research, having a positive adult role model can help increase self-esteem and life satisfaction. With adult role models and peer support through FLY, there is an opportunity for freedom from the uncertainty and fragility often experienced by girls. From peer pressure, school, friendships and relationships, we want to help girls navigate challenges.

And one day she discovered that she was fierce, and strong, and full of fire, and that not even she could hold herself back because her passion burned brighter than her fears.

FLY Is more than an empowerment program for girls, it’s a pathway to a new future. A fresh way of thinking. A fresh way of living. In a time of opportunity for women, we can further inspire this next generation to fly high. When girls believe in themselves, the possibilities are endless. With a focus on finding their unique beauty and embracing themselves as they are, their inner spark becomes brighter and more hopeful. We believe girls have a voice that can change the world; it is important to give girls the confidence to use that voice.

The world needs strong women. Women who will lift and build others, who will love and be loved. Women who live bravely, both tender and fierce. Women of indomitable will.
